J.E. Root 103 v Sri LankaBack to boards

Joe Root's second innings century against Sri Lanka secured his place on the Lord's Honours Boards for a record-equalling eighth time.

After scoring a century in the first innings, Root's 111-ball hundred meant he became just the fourth batter in history to score a century in both innings at Lord's in a Test match.

A record breaking day for Root also saw him surpass Alastair Cook for most England Test centuries of all time. Cook, who was commentating on the game for BBC Test Match Special, could do nothing but watch as his previous record of 33 was overtaken.

Cook's mentor and fellow England great Graham Gooch also saw two longstanding records broken by the Yorkshireman. Root's 97th run saw him become the top Test run scorer at Lord's, before he also broke Gooch's joint record with Michael Vaughan of most Test centuries at Lord's as he reached three figures for the seventh time at the Home of Cricket.
