How to join MCC

How to become a Member of the historic Marylebone Cricket Club

MCC aims to be the finest cricket club in the world, working for the good of the game. To be the best means attracting the very best Candidates to join our membership – those with a demonstrable passion for cricket. We want to put cricket firmly at the heart of the process by which people become Members of our Club.

 

JOINING THE WAITING LIST

The most common path to becoming a Member of MCC begins with the prospective Candidate being proposed by an existing Full or Senior Member. If you have a Member willing to act as your Proposer, they can begin the process by locating the proposal form in the Members’ section of the Lord’s website.

PROPOSAL PROCESS
  • Full or Senior MCC Member submits online proposal.
  • Proposal is verified and prospective candidate is emailed to complete their section of the proposal form (between 5-7 days after Member's proposal). 
  • Prospective candidate is invited to attend an Endorsing interview (usually between 3-6 months after the applicant has submitted their form).
  • Successful candidate pays registration fee and is entered onto the waiting list.

All Candidates must be at least 16 years of age before being nominated.

If you have a demonstrable passion for cricket and can provide evidence of your involvement in the game (e.g. as a player, umpire, coach, scorer or otherwise), but you do not know an MCC Member, please contact our Club Services Department.

All Candidates are required to pay a registration fee before their name is entered into the Club's books.

MCC Candidate Options

•Priority access to Public Stand tickets.

•Use the squash courts, subject to availability.

•Use the real tennis court on Sundays, subject to availability.

•Attend the annual Candidates’ Dinner.

•Priority access to hospitality suites via the Premium Seating Ballot.

•Apply to join The Old Clock Tower Club.

Playing and out-match candidates

A prospective Playing or Out-Match Candidate will be required to provide statistical evidence of playing cricket to a good club 1st XI standard, as part of their application.

For safeguarding reasons, MCC will not accept any applicant under 18 years of age onto the list of Probationary Cricket Candidates or Out-Match Candidates. Prospective Candidates can apply to join the waiting list from the age of 16 as a Non-Playing Candidate and then contact MCC once they reach the age of 18 if they wish to start the process of joining MCC as a cricketer.

 

MCC Bursary

The MCC has a bursary fund to assist promising prospective Candidates with entry on to the list of Candidates, where the cost is a prohibitive factor for them joining.

If the cost of joining the waiting list is stopping you from applying to be a Candidate, please contact our Club Services Department to enquire about the possibility of being granted a bursary to cover the cost of the registration fee.

  • To wear the Club colours.
  • To use the Tennis and Squash Courts.
  • To enter their children and grandchildren for Easter Coaching Courses.
  • To apply for boxes.
  • To purchase, in advance of the public ballot, public stand tickets for major match days.
  • To participate in events organised by the Bridge, Golf, Chess and Backgammon Societies.

Associate membership is offered in turn to those on the waiting list as vacancies arise

  • To be admitted to the Ground, Pavilion and Members' Friends' Enclosures (Allen Stand, Tavern Stand and Warner Stand) on production of their Associate Members pass.
  • To purchase Rover tickets for the major match days Associate Members have membership rights to, for his or her personal guests.
  • To purchase, in advance of the public, tickets in the public stands for the major matches at Lord’s, subject to availability.
  • To introduce guests, over the age of 12 years, into the Pavilion during matches other than major matches after payment of the ground admission charge where applicable.
  • To wear the Club colours.
  • On the same basis as Full Members, to use the tennis and squash courts, to participate in Golf Days and events organised by the Bridge, Backgammon, and Chess societies, and to enter their children for Easter Coaching Classes.

Associate membership is offered only to Candidates whose names have already been registered on to the waiting list for Full membership.

While Associate Members will not have the same rights as a Full Member, they will have the right to attend selected matches at Lord’s alongside a number of other benefits.

Associate membership is optional, and Candidates are not obliged to take up Associate membership when it is offered to them. However, it should be noted that a Candidate will only receive one offer of Associate membership during their time on the waiting list.

Non-Playing Candidates must wait for membership vacancies to occur to move up the Waiting List. At the current rate, they can expect to be offered Associate membership after approximately seven to nine years and Full membership after 29 years.

Playing Candidates, provided they have successfully completed their qualifying matches to the standard required by the relevant Players & Fixtures sub-committee, can expect to be offered Full membership after two years.

Out-Match Candidates follow the same timetable as Playing Candidates and can therefore expect to be offered Out-Match membership after two years (with the ability to transfer to Full membership after completing five years of Out-Match membership).

No additional fees will be incurred until an offer of membership is made.

A Playing Candidate is elected as a Full Member once they have successfully completed their qualifying matches to the required standard. As a Full Member, they are provided with a red Membership Pass and are able to access all the rights and privileges of Full membership.

Out-Match Candidates qualify for membership in the same way as Full Playing Candidates. The low level of both the Registration Fee to become a Candidate and the Annual Subscription for Out-Match membership reflects the fact that privileges are limited to the Out-Match setting. Out-Match Members play for MCC and are able to wear the Club colours. Once an Out-Match Member has completed five years of membership, they are entitled to apply to transfer to Full membership.

If you originally applied as a Non-Playing Candidate, and were successfully entered onto the waiting list, and you would now like to play for the Club, you do not need to be proposed again.

If you would like to try to convert to being a Playing Candidate, you will need to provide two years of statistics of a good first XI standard. Please contact the Cricket Office on cricket.office@mcc.org.uk and they will provide you with the appropriate form.
