MCC has today announced that Jamie Cox will become the Club’s new Assistant Secretary (Cricket & Operations) and will begin at Lord’s in September 2021.
Cox will succeed John Stephenson, who is leaving MCC after 17 years but is staying on as General Manager for London Spirit for The Hundred this year.
The 51 year-old Tasmanian enjoyed an 18-year career in first-class cricket in both England and Australia, representing Somerset and Tasmania. He scored in excess of 18,500 first-class runs, as well as almost 6,000 in List A matches.
After his professional cricketing career, Cox moved into sports administration and completed a Law degree with Open University in the process.
He has subsequently gone on to hold senior roles across a number of organisations including the Australian Institute of Sport, Cricket Australia, the South Australia Cricket Association, St Kilda Football Club and Cricket Tasmania.
Cox’s role will encompass the cricket departments of MCC, including the delivery of the burgeoning Out-Match programme, which sees the Club play around 500 fixtures each year, and the important overseas touring schedule. The role will also be responsible for delivery of the World Cricket committee.
He will also oversee the operations and maintenance of the world-class cricketing fixtures and facilities at Lord’s including the Indoor Cricket Centre.
"we feel very fortunate to be welcoming someone of Jamie’s excellence to Lord’s"
MCC Chief Executive & Secretary Guy Lavender said: “I am thrilled to welcome Jamie to MCC. After an extensive recruitment process, which saw an extremely high calibre of candidates apply for the role, Jamie demonstrated that he is a dynamic individual that will be huge asset to MCC.
“His high-level experience across several organisations in his native Australia shone through, and we feel very fortunate to be welcoming someone of Jamie’s excellence to Lord’s.
“We thank John Stephenson for his huge contribution to the Club. John’s leadership of the Cricket department has helped MCC to maintain its reputation as one of the biggest influencers in the game, both in the UK and around the world.
"John has led on MCC’s mission to help develop elite players and increase participation at a professional level, presiding over both the MCC Young Cricketers and MCC Universities programmes.”
Cox said of his new role: “I am both excited and deeply honoured to be joining the MCC and continuing my journey in cricket.
"Having been fortunate to experience six wonderful years playing for Somerset, I have since held a close affinity for both the English game and Lord’s and I am very much looking forward to undertaking this unique leadership role at the Home of Cricket.”
Cox will become a member of the Club’s Secretariat, who run the day-to-day operations for the Club.
