Cricket+

Support for physical and mental wellbeing

WHAT IS CRICKET+ ?

‘Cricket+’ is the MCCF’s term for the holistic support offered to players on its programmes to supplement their development beyond cricket. The MCCF works with partners to cover key themes, including:

  • Physical wellbeing
  • Mental wellbeing
  • Individual development
  • Social development
  • Economic development

This year, our Cricket+ initiatives will be delivered through:

  • In person workshops at Hub training, matches and events
  • Online workshops
  • Player and parent monthly newsletters

MENTAL WELLBEING

The best athletes understand they need to take the time to look after their mental wellbeing just as much as their physical wellbeing. This resource, produced in collaboration with Opening Up Cricket, covers a number of tools to help you reflect on your mental wellbeing and support a positive mindset related to your cricket as well as other signposted resources and organisations to support you. All UK Hub participants are invited to attend a virtual talk on mental health in cricket, delivered by Opening Up Cricket, during the 10 week winter training programme. Details for this will be passed on by your Hub Manager.

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Physical fitness is an important part of being a cricketer. The MCCF has produced three week-long Strength & Conditioning (S&C) programmes to complete alongside the 10 weeks of winter coaching. The programmes are tiered at three levels:

S&C (Beginner)

S&C (Intermediate)

S&C (Advanced)

NUTRITION

Eating the right foods will aid your athletic performance in three ways:

  1. Energise – perform well for longer
  2. Repair – recover post-training and avoid injury
  3. Protect – boost immune system and recovery

This resource will guide you through foods to consume to support your cricket performance and suggested meals/snacks.

WOMEN'S HEALTH FOR YOUNG CRICKETERS

In collaboration with the England Women’s Health Group, MCCF has produced an informative resource for girls in cricket. This resource is aimed at helping to empower young female cricketers that are about to start, or are going through, puberty (at secondary school age) and to address some of the concerns that they may have.
