Bringing together the age-old traditions of MCC with innovative cooking from world-renowned Michelin-starred chefs, Lord’s Dining Club has gone from strength to strength in recent years and the Club has today revealed the next chef to star at the Home of Cricket.
Tom described opening his first restaurant, Upstairs By Tom Shepherd, as a ‘dream come true’. The restaurant, in Lichfield, was awarded a Michelin Star just four months after opening and is the first, and only, in Staffordshire to do so. Tom’s dishes champion modern British food using local and seasonal produce. Subtle influences from Japan and east Asia are communicated throughout his menus.
Lord’s Dining Club takes place in the famous Grade II*-listed Lord’s Pavilion and is a unique dining experience you can’t get anywhere else. Honouring the traditional pairing of food and cricket, it brings together some of the world’s most revered Michelin-starred chefs with one of the most famous cricket grounds to create an evening of gastronomy in the historic and magnificent surroundings of the Long Room.
The evening includes a sparkling wine reception with a selection of canapés in the Long Room Bar, followed by a four-course menu, with matching wine flight that is exclusively designed by the chef. A Q&A session, hosted by a cricketing personality, will delve into the chefs’ successful career as well as exploring the menu choices guests will be enjoying on the evening.
James De Groot, Chief F&B Officer at MCC commented: “Lord’s Dining Club has become one of the most successful and highly sought-after events we run at Lord’s, and as one of the biggest rising stars in the hospitality industry at the moment, Tom will significantly add to the illustrious list of chefs we have worked with.
“We are delighted to be welcoming Tom to Lord’s, and we know that he will put on a fantastic event.”
Tom Shepherd, Chef-Patron of Michelin-starred Upstairs By Tom Shepherd, said: “I am delighted to be hosting an event in the Long Room at Lords. It’s such an iconic location, full of history and cricketing folklore. It’s always such a privilege to cook in unique venues with such rich traditions, I am really looking forward to it.”
Tom has worked in the industry for over a decade and has been fortunate enough to work in some of the UK’s finest kitchens. As well as working at Sat Bains and The Latymer, he was also Sous Chef at The Samling in 2013 when they were awarded their first Michelin Star. Following this, Tom joined Adam’s as Head Chef where he oversaw the successful retention of their Michelin Star and three AA Rosettes for over two years.
With Tom Shepherd's event falling a few months after Birmingham-based Aktar Islam’s on 27 February, Lord's Dining Club continues to highlight the thriving Midlands food scene, which has been boosted recently with the news that Aktar's restaurant, Opheem, was awarded its second Michelin star.
Tom Shepherd’s Lord’s Dining Club experience on 7 May at 7pm is priced at £270 per person, including a reception in the Long Room bar. The VIP package is available at £395 per person and includes a reception in the Home Dressing Room. Individual spaces can be purchased online by following the link HERE.
