Choudhury will join the senior management team at Lord’s, led by Chief Executive & Secretary Guy Lavender, and will take up his new post in July.
He will be assuming many of the responsibilities of Jamie Clifford, who departed the role of Assistant Secretary (Membership & Operations) in December. Guy Curry has been fulfilling the role in an interim capacity.
Mahdi will assume responsibility for membership matters including General Meetings, the Annual Report & Accounts, Club Rules and Regulations and other MCC policies and procedures. He will also oversee our Community Development, Heritage & Collections and Ticketing Departments, as well as liaison with the MCC Foundation.
Choudhury’s experience includes acting as Chief Executive at the British Athletes Commission (BAC), an Independent Director for the European Rugby League Federation, and Lawyer for the British Olympic Association.
He has specific skills in the areas of legal, governance and Member engagement matters. Responsible for areas of compliance, he has acted as both a Chair and secretariat to various committees and taken responsibility for the successful organisation and delivery of large-scale AGMs and international congresses.
Cricket is his biggest passion, playing club cricket both in Lancashire and London, and avidly following the game at club, county and international level.
Guy Lavender, Chief Executive & Secretary, said: “We are thrilled to be appointing Mahdi to the role of Assistant Secretary (Membership) and look forward to him joining the senior management team.
“His previous work in sport, and specifically with complex Member engagement matters, will allow us to continue to develop and enrich our Members’ services and experiences.”
“I would like to thank Guy Curry, on whom we have been fortunate to work with as Acting Assistant Secretary (Membership) since the beginning of the year. His legal skills and expertise, his experience of MCC and, above all, his professionalism have been of great service to the Club.”
"I look forward to contributing to the ongoing development of the Club’s ambitious strategy"
Mahdi Choudhury said of his appointment: “As a lifelong cricket fan, I am delighted to be joining MCC to work with the team and Membership in what is an exciting chapter in its history.
“I look forward to contributing to the ongoing development of the Club’s ambitious strategy and continuing to deliver exceptional services for its Members.”
