‘Roly’ Jenkins was a valuable all-rounder who combined an aggressive batting style with a right-arm leg-break and googly bowling.
Jenkins took a five-for on his first Test match at Lord’s, against West Indies in June 1950.
On the first day of the match, he had a twenty-minute spell after tea where in seven overs he removed Walcott, Rae and Gomez.
In the second innings he took a further four wickets including that of Clyde Walcott and the captain John Goddard, but was unable to prevent the West Indies winning their first Test match in England by a margin of 326 runs.
